For decades, Fort Getty has been part of the fabric of this community. It has its own history, its own character, and its own loyal admirers. And yet, most Jamestowners rarely experience the best of it.

Fort Getty covers 41 acres, much of it open, grassy land. But the crown of the park — the hilltop with the most breathtaking views of the Bay — is occupied from late May to October each year. For five months of the year, that hilltop belongs to everyone only in theory.

We believe Fort Getty can be something more by expanding what’s possible. Imagine a park where families picnic in the shade of beautiful trees on a hot July afternoon. Where neighbors walk and cycle together on a September morning. Where all can gather for community events with a view that stretches across the whole Bay. Fort Getty is one of Jamestown’s most unique waterfront resources.

Friends of Fort Getty Park exists to encourage thoughtful community conversations about how this treasured place can best serve residents, visitors, and future generations. Are you a tax payer worried that the investments needed for the RV Park are just too expensive?
